The set was called “Do I Look Like A Duolingo Owl To You,” and Sadie C delivered it at the Ice House in Pasadena to a room that was, by her own account, heavy on white male audience members. The bit addressed directly the assumptions that crowd tends to carry into any space containing a multilingual Asian woman, and she has described the response as an audience that laughed with her even as the material turned the lens on them. She held onto the clip.

That night built something, and this August it is paying off across two venues in greater Los Angeles.

A Lot Has Happened

Sadie C is a SAG-AFTRA actress, singer, and standup comedian based in Los Angeles, with screen credits going back to 2013. Among her film and television work are Cobra Kai: Vietnam Vengeance, Black Terror, and Hide. Earlier this year, she appeared in an Apple commercial, it can be found on Apple’s website. She speaks Mandarin, Japanese, and Taiwanese fluently, with Spanish in progress, a set of languages that defined her early casting and now supply much of her comedic material.

Her theater work runs alongside the screen career. In 2025, according to Sadie C, she took the lead in “Her Rage” at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, marking her first time carrying a production as the principal performer. She returned to the Fringe this year in “Two Sides of the Same Coin,” a world premiere by CHW Productions running in June 2026, playing Gabi in a supporting capacity. The play, staged over multiple performances, follows two 15-year-old young women navigating pregnancy without financial or family support in 2026 America. Between those two Fringe appearances and the standup bookings now landing on the calendar, the range of what she has been doing in the past year is hard to miss.

What the Material Is About

The standup, when she performs it, tends to stay in one territory. Sadie C has described her mission as giving comedic voice to Asian and Asian American women who move through daily life perceived through the lens of their ethnicity rather than as individual people. At the Ice House she made that argument directly, naming the dynamic and letting the room that embodied it sit with the joke. The response, she has said, was a crowd that felt implicated and still laughed.

That material connects to the rest of her work in ways that are not coincidental. The multilingual ability that shaped her early casting, and the narrow band of roles it initially opened, became the subject matter. For more on the working life behind all of it, she produces Ecobitch Actress, a podcast available on YouTube and wherever podcasts are distributed, covering auditions, representation, race, and what a screen career actually looks like from the inside.

Two Nights Out

On August 23, Sadie C performs at Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant, 102 East Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, a venue that has been a fixture of the Los Angeles standup circuit since 2010. Then on August 26 at 9 PM she appears at Astronaut City Comedy Club and Karaoke Bar in Arcadia as a featured comedian in the 2026 San Gabriel Valley Comedy Festival. That night’s showcase is headlined by Erik Escobar, whose credits include NBC’s Last Comic Standing, with Sadie C among the featured comedians on the bill. The festival runs August 23 through 29 and was designed by Astronaut City owner Teresa Lo to function as a working industry event, pairing nationally touring headliners with selected regional voices to give performers credits, connections, and real stage time. Tickets for the August 26 showcase are available through Eventbrite.

The two August dates are the current marker of where a busy run of work is taking her.
