There was a moment when William “Pierre” Wade looked at a steady paycheck and recognized it for what it was: the wrong fit. Not a failure, but a mismatch between where he was and where his instincts were pointing. What followed was less a dramatic departure and more a deliberate education in how the music business actually works, who moves the pieces, and what it takes to last in it.
Wade enrolled at California State University Dominguez Hills, where he earned, by his own account, a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in communications. The combination proved more applicable to the entertainment world than it might first appear. Sociology offers a framework for understanding how people organize around shared interests and make decisions under pressure. Communications supplies the practical tools to operate inside those structures. For someone who would go on to represent artists professionally, both turned out to matter considerably.
He began where many independent music careers start: small rooms, developmental hip-hop acts in Los Angeles, artists who had more potential than profile. Wade has described those early years as a period of learning rather than a launching pad. There were disagreements and difficult calls, he says, and the kind of setbacks that force a clearer picture of what artists actually need from the people representing them. What he came out of that stretch with was the foundation for Heart of a Lion Entertainment.
What the Firm Does
Heart of a Lion Entertainment is Wade’s Los Angeles-based management operation, with his current work centered squarely on music and artist development. While the company has had connections to the broader entertainment world, Wade’s present focus is music rather than acting, and he is not currently working with actors.
That focus reflects the direction his career has taken over time. For Wade, music management is less about guiding a career along a preset track and more about understanding the individual artist: their creative instincts, their temperament under pressure, where they benefit from support, and where they need to be challenged.
In a 2022 feature published by VoyageLA, Wade described the work as requiring a particular kind of resilience. The music industry, he said, is not designed for the passive, and understanding why some careers build while others stall is part of what a good manager does. By 2023, a subsequent VoyageLA profile noted that he had expanded his reach within the Los Angeles independent music community.
The A&R dimension of his work sits alongside management. A&R, short for artists and repertoire, involves identifying and developing talent before it has mainstream visibility, often before an artist has a full team or a clear trajectory. Wade has spoken about the value of building those relationships early, at a stage when the shape of a career is still genuinely open.
The Philosophy
In a September 2023 conversation published by ShoutOut LA, Wade was direct about what sustains the work. “Every artist is unique with their own specific flair and style,” he said, framing the variability of the job not as a challenge but as the reason to stay in it. He added that the lessons he has accumulated over the years are ones he hopes others can apply to their own paths. “We only succeed by helping each other,” he said in that exchange.
He has also been candid about the difficulty of the industry. In a January 2024 profile published by Bold Journey Magazine, Wade pointed to communication as the skill he would prioritize above others for any emerging music professional: the ability to be clear, to follow through, and to operate comfortably in any room, regardless of who is in it. These are not especially glamorous qualities, but they tend to separate careers that build from those that plateau early.
Where Things Are Heading
Wade’s current platform, cobret.us, represents the latest shape of his work and presence in the music industry. The site connects to streaming destinations including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, extending the reach of what he has built through Heart of a Lion Entertainment into new channels and audiences.
For someone who has spoken consistently about the long game this business requires, that extension makes its own kind of sense. His work today is centered on music, artist management, A&R, and helping independent talent develop sustainable careers.
As he told ShoutOut LA in 2023, the goal has always been to build something that lasts, and to do it by helping the people around him do the same.
